Gudiya
One cold winter afternoon, the weavers of this hand-knotted rug found inspiration in a children’s book featuring a Christmas tree. They wove similar trees along with ‘bindiya’ (dot) patterns. On one side, a weaver depicted two rooms: one with herself and her husband, and the other with her child. Living in a one-room home, she shared how this design reflects her dream of a bigger house where everyone has their own space. On the opposite side, the weavers included a house representing one artisan's home at the edge of the village. They also wove motifs of sheep and camels. Despite their efforts to create horses, they humorously admitted that the results resembled tables more than animals. The rug also features mountains, trees, and farms from their village. One standout feature is the inclusion of two doll motifs. Inspired by young daughter of one of the weavers who often plays with her toy doll near the loom, they created one motif for the doll and another for the child herself. The artisans named the rug “Gudiya,” meaning “Doll,” in honor of this sweet detail.

• Use protectors under the legs of heavy furniture to avoid flattening and piling.
• If thread comes out do not pull the yarn, trim with scissor.
