Within the confines of the jail, Hariram and Chotu sat at the loom, crafting a piece of home. Hariram, raised in the mountains, reminisced about the trails that wound their way to the highest peak of his village. He recalled how the paths twisted and turned, how the trees stood as silent companions, and how the stars kept watch over those who ventured out at night. They created intricate patterns resembling those winding trails, each one representing a unique route to the mountain. At the top of the rug, they wove images of trees and stars to depict a picturesque landscape. With each knot, they infused their memories and desires into the fabric. Above all, Hariram and Chotu dreamed of the day they would be free to traverse those paths once more, walking under the same trees, beneath the same stars. With this hope, they named the Manchaha “Parichit,” meaning “Familiar.”
