Lakshagrah
The journey of this Manchaha rug began with a simple inspiration but soon took a turn towards one of the most profound and powerful stories from Indian mythology. This extraordinary rug is the creation of Santosh, a bold and unconventional weaver who isn’t afraid to think differently. When Santosh received the bright red threads for the rug, she was filled with excitement. The vivid color reminded her of the lacquer bangles she loves dearly. At first, she thought of weaving these bangle designs in the rug, but anyone could do that. Santosh wanted to create something deeper, something that would leave an impression. The thought of lacquer stayed with her. As she thought, a memory from her childhood came to her, a story her grandmother used to tell her, the tale of Lakshagrah, one of the most gripping episodes from the Mahabharata. Lakshagrah was a grand palace built entirely of lacquer, so flammable that even a single spark could set it ablaze. It was a trap, crafted by the cunning Duryodhana to kill the Pandavas. Yet, truth always finds a way to triumph. The Pandavas escaped the fiery trap, turning a tale of deceit into one of survival and justice. With this story burning bright in her heart, Santosh wove the essence of Lakshagrah into her rug. The red, melting lacquer appears across the design, fluid and intense. But at the heart of the rug lies its most powerful symbol: a rising sun. For Santosh, this sun represents the power of truth. Through this Manchaha rug, Santosh has immortalized a timeless story, a reminder that even in the face of darkness, truth will always prevail.
