Koyal Ke GeetSurji is an artist who draws inspiration from her childhood memories, particularly the mountains she loved to climb. She tries to relive those moments through her art of creating Manchaha rugs. This time, however, she had a companion—a koyal (cuckoo) bird that sang along with the rhythm of Surji’s loom. Next to her home stands a tall date tree, where the koyal sometimes pecks at the fruit and occasionally flies near her loom, stealing some wool for its nest. Surji beautifully captured this scene by weaving a date tree in the center of her rug, with an abstract shape of a white bird on the left side. As their relationship flourished, Surji began to keep food and water for the bird. During the quiet hours of the day, she and the koyal would compete to see who could sing "Kuhooo" in a higher pitch. Above them, the open sky features a morning scene from the mountains, where sunlight shines from behind the peaks, creating a golden yellow outline. Surji feels that the koyal comes from the mountains to greet her each morning, which makes her feel very special, waiting each day to greet the bird back. This rug beautifully represents how love can bind all beings in the simplest and most beautiful ways. Surji named her creation "Koyal ke Geet," meaning "Songs of Cuckoo," a cherished memory woven into threads.
