This grand 14' x 22'6" antique Tabriz rug from Northwest Iran, woven around 1940, features an intricate Ardebil design. Red and medieval blue colors stand out. A central starburst medallion, with radiating arms, defines the deep red field. The field is densely filled with repeating botehs and intricate floral sprays; each motif is meticulously detailed, forming an endless garden. The dominant red is balanced by medieval blue accents. Borders frame the rug; the main border shows flowing vine scrolls and palmettes. Smaller guard borders have delicate rosette patterns in cream and subtle blue.
