“When you keep sailing the boat through harsh waves but do not reach where you want to be, you suddenly dream of flying.” This profound thought was shared by Nashir, Ravi Yogi, and Bajrang Lal, the weavers of this Manchaha. These weavers have seen many hardships in life, but their dedication towards their work has been unwavering. In this hand-knotted rug, they depicted small boats at the bottom, creating an ocean scene with boat designs. In the middle, they showed a path the boats follow, symbolizing their life journey. The boats vary in design, but from the middle upwards, there's a transformation. The upper half features tiny kite designs, which the weavers say are flying in the sky. They also included hot-air balloons, representing their wish to soar. This rug tells the story of their past struggles and their longing for freedom from life's difficulties. With such a meaningful theme, they named the rug “Rihayi,” which means “Release” in English.
