Matka
Lada Devi often finds inspiration in the simplest objects of everyday village life. For this Manchaha, she imagined an earthen pot - matka- not as a literal form but as an abstract shape built through patterns and colour. The broad geometric composition gradually comes together to resemble the silhouette of a matka. She filled its surface with intricate diagonal lines and flowing patterns, while the surrounding spaces remain quieter, allowing the central form to emerge naturally. The top part of the pot is filled with dense diamond motifs. When the rug was complete, Lada Devi smiled and said that it looked as though the matka was slowly being filled with water. Simple in its composition yet rich in meaning, this Manchaha celebrates the beauty of ordinary moments and the imagination that transforms them into art.

• If spills occur, blot immediately. Do not rub the stain.
