“Intricate design and an intricate name,” is what Hariram said while narrating the story of this rug. He weaved this hand-knotted rug with Chotu, whose literal meaning is small. Hariram said that this carpet incorporates many small and intricate designs, so they decided to name the rug ‘Chotu’. Initially planning a traditional wavy pattern called leheriya, they decided to incorporate various designs into each wave for added complexity. As they progressed, the pattern started resembling a zebra crossing, prompting them to add blue and red traffic lights to the design. The weavers carefully deliberated on color placement to achieve striking contrasts and an eye-catching appearance. Their artistic approach and attention to detail transformed this Manchaha into a true masterpiece.
