Surji’s latest rug is pure joy—like a sky full of clouds playing tag. With so many colors in her hands, she was a child again, switching threads at every step, like the clouds above her childhood mountains: sometimes scattered, sometimes dense, always playful. She used soft baby pink to show her favorite kind of clouds, the gentle, floaty ones that drift wherever they please. In the middle of all this cloud play, there’s a white pond, stitched with black patterns to look like tiny fish swimming. The mountains, ever-present in Surji’s heart, rise in wild vegetation—captured in textured patches of greens, golds, and earth-tones. She believes, as she often says, “Nature holds all the answers". And there it is again, her signature motif—a bold, red path cutting through the weaving. This vivid trail is Surji’s way back to the hills, her eternal route home. Every time she sits at her loom, it feels like she's back in the mountains, reliving her childhood.
