ShringarThis Manchaha was woven by three weavers, Mishri, Saroj, and Kavita. For them, the rug became a space to celebrate something close to every woman’s heart—the joy of getting ready. They began with zig-zag patterns inspired by the design of their dupattas. From there, the rug filled up with adornments: a packet of bindis on one side, earrings, a tikka, and even necklaces knotted in the middle of the rug. They laughingly thought that men might feel left out, so they added a tie just below the necklaces. On the top left of the rug, they have woven the flowy 'leheriya' patterns decorated with several decorative motifs inspired by the sarees they wear. While weaving, Saroj asked where they would go all dressed up. Mishri answered at once, “To Khatu Shyam Temple.” So, on the left, they wove their home, and just above it, the temple gate. They also decorated the rug with lots of flower motifs and diamond-shaped Kaju Katri sweets to offer in the temple. When the rug was done, all three looked at it with joy. It felt festive, decorated from end to end. That is why they named it “Shringar,” meaning “Adornments.”
