Mausam ka JaduWorking together on the loom, the artisans of this rug witnessed seasons changing, festivals coming and going, and they tried to portray this very beauty of transition in this Manchaha. Named “Mausam ka Jaad,” meaning “The Magic of the Seasons,” the artisans have added multiple motifs and patterns reflecting different seasons in this rug. Starting with the classic wavy ‘leheriya’ patterns, the weavers showcased the monsoon season. Along with that, they have woven different sparrows, a nightingale, noisy crickets, and crabs that often visit their home during the season. When winter came in the beginning circle of the season, the artisans wove different flowers and their imaginary scenery of snowing on the mountains. They have even woven a stripe of lamps and rangoli designs to indicate the arrival of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. For the artisans, weaving together and getting to talk about life with each other is nothing less than a luxury. While narrating the design story of this hand-knotted rug, the artisans shared a heart-warming message: “Life's transitions, its ups and downs, will always continue, but taking the time to pause, observe, and appreciate is a true luxury. And what is even more luxurious is having a community to share these moments with is invaluable.”
