BindiyaIndian women proudly wear a round dot on their foreheads called a Bindi. It is associated with the "third eye,” which represents intuition and spiritual insight. When women wear bindis, they add some style to them. Over time, the bindi has become a way for women to express themselves, changing in shape, colour, and style. The weavers of this rug thought of this while making this hand-knotted rug. In this piece, they have woven different types of Bindi. Some are round, some are leaf-shaped, and some are also square. What began as a simple symbol became a canvas of creativity and culture. Soni, one of the weavers, shared that she didn’t like wearing bindis when she was younger. But now, she says, it feels incomplete to dress up without one. Passing on a piece of their culture and tradition through this rug, they named it “Bindiya,” which is another name for Bindi.
