Rang Birangi mausamThe ability to bring down all the seasons into a carpet is the reason why artisans are magicians in disguise. Pattashi and Roodmal are a married couple who weaved this rug with their daughter-in-law. The trio observed the various seasons of the year and how different festivals fall under the seasons. They used multiple colors and weaved patches of different shapes and sizes. They went on to fill each patch with different designs. There are motifs of “Lehereiya” (wavy designs), “Shakkarpara” (Indian sweet), “Barfi” (Indian sweet), and a lot more. “Barfi” is a sweet prepared during the festival of “Raksha Bandhan”. Interestingly, they weaved “Bajre ki Khichdi” (An Indian dish made out of millet) on the carpet! They accompanied it with sugar and ghee - which is how it is consumed during the monsoons. They even included the lights and crackers of the festival of lights - Diwali. We can also notice a small windmill weaved at the top of the carpet with which they gave an end to their meticulous process. For the vibrant colors, ever-changing seasons, and culturally rich festivals, they named the carpet “Rang Birangi Mausam” which means “Colorful Seasons.”
