Sitaron Ka SagarIn the midst of her favorite season, the Monsoon, Asha wove her Manchaha rug. She has been practicing the craft of weaving from more than three decades! Her art journey began with her beloved husband after moving to her new home. Having married at a young age, her new companion became her husband and her loom. Now, at the age of fifty, Manchaha rugs have become her cherished creative canvas, allowing her to escape the responsibilities of the world and her mind. A quiet time where she lets go and listens only to her heart, and channels her love for the monsoon into her art. In this rug, she incorporated leheriya patterns inspired by the many leheriya sarees she owns, most of which were gifted by her husband. In Rajasthan, the monsoon season is celebrated like a festival, during which women adorn vibrant leheriya (wavy pattern) sarees. They swing on swings tied to trees, gather in large groups to dance in processions, and visit local temples to express their gratitude to the rain gods. Asha captured her love for this festival in her Manchaha rug, weaving various leheriya patterns with an intricate shimmery effect created using wool and silk yarns. Asha's daughters also contributed to the design process of making this hand-knotted rug, as she sought their feedback on the patterns every day. Upon completion, Asha felt as if she had created a sea full of stars, naming her rug "Sitaron Ka Sagar," which means "a sea of stars."
