Sarkari EetSunita handknitted this Manchaha rug and named it “Sarkari Eet” which means “Government Brick” in English. She weaved the designs of “Sarkari Eet” that she picked up from the road construction and brought home. That one piece of brick gave her inspiration to design them on the carpet. She masterfully weaved two different designs in the same line by switching them as she worked. She has filled classic designs of “Lehereiya” on the carpet. She used different colors of yarn while weaving the same design. She even weaved little flowers and leaves of different kinds. There are lines and boxes and kites. There are random designs that have no meaning. There are mangoes that she ate while weaving. She often repeated “Lehereiya” patterns every now and then. She has weaved tiny toffee that the kids often munch on. Sunita weaved her water bottle, her little daughter’s bag, and a few bulbs that she remembered from her childhood home. She weaved “Satka” - a silver waistband that women wear. She owns a Satka which became her muse for the design. In the end, she weaved the English alphabet from her little daughter’s book. We can see that she has included a lot of elements from her surroundings and brought them all together in a creative manner. Sunita proves that too much is not too bad.
