Lehrana
This Manchaha rug originates from the heart of the desert, Rajasthan—a land where the earth eagerly welcomes even the lightest rain, and the people worship water as a divine element. In a place that understands the true value of water, four artists—Bidami, Nisha, Kripa, and Kavita—set out to weave a work of art that captures the ocean's untamed power. Despite never having seen the ocean themselves, their fascination drove them to explore this mysterious world on their looms. When asked about this unusual choice, they revealed that their inspiration was born from fear—a fear of the unknown, of water so vast and overwhelming. This rug tells a story of yearning to embrace something so immense that it terrifies you yet draws you closer with every step. The weavers poured their imaginations into depicting its turbulent currents at the same time a home to many little creatures. The rug is alive with patterns of swirling waves, playful sea creatures, and a whimsical crab with bulging eyes, woven by Prem, adding a touch of humor to the otherwise formidable design of the hand-knotted rug. At the top, a fishing net symbolizes the daring spirit of humans who venture into the ocean, navigating its perils to sustain their lives. This Manchaha, which the artists named "Lehrana" (To Flow Freely), is not just a rug; it's a journey into the unknown and an artistic tribute to the ocean.
