Ummeed
This rug is a vibrant tapestry, reflecting the diverse minds of the eight weavers who crafted it: Ashok Ishvar, Chandraprakash, Asharam, Prem Bihari, Sonu, Amar Ganesh, Ramesh, and Ashok Kumar. They wove the rug during different shifts, resulting in a piece that embodies the thoughts and stories of each individual. Remarkably, although the weavers were unaware of what the previous artisan had created, they endeavored to interpret and continue the design pattern, leading to a rich blend of geometric shapes and zig-zag motifs. Among the intricate designs, you'll find arrows, zebra-crossed roads, kites, sacred pots (kalash), and mountains, among many other symbols. An interesting detail is that the weavers saved the colorful yarns for the final touches, believing it was a fortunate coincidence. They aimed to conclude the rug in a vibrant fashion, symbolizing their hopeful and colorful future beyond incarceration. With this inspiration, they named the rug “Ummee,” which means “Hope” in Hindi.
